Dog Trainer/Instructor Role – North Wales

Wagtail UK Ltd is an international, multi-award-winning company, specialising in detection dogs and dog handler training. Established in 2003, Wagtail provides detection dogs and related services for government agencies including UK Border Force, HM Revenue and Customs, Police, Trading Standards and Armed Forces. Dog Trainer/Instructor Role
We are looking for an experienced detection dog trainer to work within our business, training detections dogs for a variety of roles.
This would mainly encompass training the following disciplines – drugs, tobacco, vapes, cash, explosives, meat, animal derived components, conservation and body detection dogs.
It is imperative that the candidate will be able to demonstrate current practical knowledge and experience for this role.
Mandatory Requirements :
Previous working dog training experience of 5 years
Proven experience of training Detection Dogs to either DSTL, FREDD or NCTAS-P level
Certification in the training of working dogs – as mentioned above
Previous operational dog handler experience
Instructional experience – desirable
Flexible approach to working hours
Pass an enhanced -DBS check
National security vetting to CTC level
Provide evidence for the right to work in the UK
A 5 Year – checkable work history and proof of identification will be required for this role
Hold a full driving licence for a minimum of 12 months – with a max of 3 penalty points
Additional Requirements :
Able to plan training programmes and deliver to agreed time scales
Ability to access and select dogs for training programmes
In depth knowledge of animal husbandry requirements
Ensure the health and welfare of dogs is maintained to company standard
Depth in knowledge for a variety of different dog training methods
Maintain and ensure safe handling of training samples
Personal Requirements :
Self-motivated and meticulous, with the ability to work to highest standards in a regulated environment.
Willingness to develop skills and undertake training to continuously progress
Comply with company policies and procedures
Able to conduct continuation training reports on a weekly and monthly basis, in maintaining and meet licensing requirements
Exceptional organisation skills
A resilient nature with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
Ability to carry out tasks on a computer or hand-held device
Great team player and be able to operate on your own initiative with excellent verbal and written communication skills
A professional manner and smart appearance
Have the physical ability – movement, co-ordination and dexterity, to operate in different climatic and environmental conditions
What will I receive in return?
Salary: £36,000.00 per year – based on a 40hr week
Hours of Work: Mainly 5 days per week – flexibility will also be required at times
Location: Based in North Wales at our training centre but with the flexibility to work away from home to support continuation training activities with handlers, based in different geographical locations
Contract Type: Permanent contract upon completion of probation period and necessary qualifications.
