- Estimate stone weight: have to determine the carat weight of stones when analyzing quality.
- Appraising diamonds to determine their value based on factors such as cut, color, clarity, carat weight, and origin
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends, knowledge and best practices
- Measuring diamonds using precision equipment such as a spectrometer to determine their exact chemical composition
- Maintaining a database of information about diamonds that have been appraised or graded to allow for future comparisons
